Messing about on the river…

Friday, 15th June 2012 saw some of the staff at Pughs take to the water in the annual Coracle World Championships held in Shrewsbury in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.  Our own team of four plucky coracle racers consisting of team captain, Stuart McDowall, Paul O’Brien, Ian Davies and Andy Griffiths felt up to the challenge and together raised over £500 in support of the charity.

The race, now in its fifth year, was held at the Pengwern Boating Club in Shrewsbury and saw teams trying to cross the river Severn and back four times in the shortest time possible.  Despite the threat of rain during the practice sessions our team came in at a respectable fifth and even though they all seemed to spend most of their time in the river rather than racing across it, all involved agreed that they had really enjoyed the event and would look forward to trying again next year- as long as they had dried off by then!
