Funeral Costs

This is when a cremation takes place without a service in the chapel or mourners in attendance. This option may be more suitable due to its lower cost, for those considering a memorial or thanksgiving service at a later date or as a lifestyle choice.

• Collection and transportation of the deceased to our premises throughout Shropshire
• All documentation and arrangements for the crematorium
• A coffin suitable for cremation
• Care of the deceased prior to the cremation
• Transportation of the deceased to the crematorium and funeral bearers

Additional third-party fees 

• Crematorium charges at Emstrey Crematorium, Shrewsbury: £534.00
• Doctors fees for the completion of cremation form 4: £82.00

Total Cost of Option 1: Direct to Cremation at Emstrey Crematorium, Shrewsbury (including third party fees)  £1,830.00

We can arrange our own Service Chapel according to your individual requirements.  The time of the service can be much more flexible, which can avoid unnecessary delays. The Service Chapel is similar to the Crematorium Chapel with facilities to play music, sing hymns and view a visual tribute display for photos. You are welcome to record the Service or use different formats to stream the Service. 

This option gives more flexibility regarding the Service without the restrictions of the Crematorium Chapel. You are welcome to view our Chapel and facilities and discuss any requirements with our funeral directors.

• Choice of date and time of the Service
• Provision of professional services
• Time to set up the Service Chapel prior the service
• Visiting the deceased in the Chapel of Rest by appointment prior to the Service

Total Cost of Option 2: Service at WRR Pugh & Son Service Chapel followed by a Direct to Cremation at Emstrey Crematorium, Shrewsbury (including third party-fees) £2,410.00

Services at Emstrey Crematorium, Shrewsbury and Telford Crematorium take place daily throughout the week and also on a Saturday morning. Service times within the chapels are limited to 30 minutes at Emstrey and 45 minutes at Telford. Both chapels offer state of the art facilities for playing music, live streaming and web casts of the funeral service and also the option of recording of the Service.

• Collection and transportation of the deceased to our premises throughout Shropshire
• Provision of professional services
• All documentation and arrangements for the Crematorium 
• A choice of coffin suitable for Cremation
• Care of the deceased prior to the Cremation
• Visiting the deceased in the Chapel of Rest by appointment prior to the Service
• Choice of date and time of the funeral
• Hearse including a procession to the Crematorium
• Collection of ashes from the Crematorium and local delivery if required

Professional Services from WRR Pugh & Son

The following is a list of our services which are included in our professional charges (where applicable):

• Guidance of a professional funeral director throughout the arrangements
• Provision of a funeral director and staff to assist mourners, administer the funeral and provide guidance and assistance during the funeral service.
• Help and advice on registering the death and booking appointments at our office.
• Liaising with a Minister, Celebrant, Church, Crematorium or Cemetery and arranging the timing and details of the funeral service and interment of ashes.
• Collection and delivery of all necessary forms to the relevant authorities.
• Liaising with the Coroner’s office, local authorities and Hospital Bereavement Services.
• Advice on all funeral service options.
• Wording and placing of obituaries or announcements in a local or national newspaper.
• Advice and assistance with a printed order, announcement cards and large display photos and photo boards.
• Dealing with all enquiries relating to the funeral.
• All necessary telephone, admin and postage charges.
• Receiving and listing floral tributes.
• Set up of an on-line donation and tribute page and forwarding donations to the chosen charity.
• Funeral Bearers
• Local distribution of flowers following the funeral.

From 16th September 2021, all funeral directors are legally required to publish this Price List for a standardised set of products and services. This is to help you think through your options and make choices, and to let you compare prices between different funeral directors.

Please discuss any specific religious, belief-based and/or cultural requirements that you have with the funeral director.

The funeral director can give you a full list of what they can supply. They are likely to charge for these additional products and services, so you may choose to take care of some arrangements without their involvement, or you can use a different supplier.

¹ This fee (which is sometimes called the interment fee) is the charge made for digging and closing a new grave, or for reopening and closing an existing grave.
² In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you will usually need to pay doctors’ fees as well. This is the charge for two doctors to sign the Medical Certificates for Cremation.
