How it Works

How it Works 1

You and your loved one are in good hands

WRR Pugh & Son has more than 130 years of experience serving the people of Shropshire, providing the send-off of choice. A direct cremation is an attractive alternative to a more traditional funeral service for many and we can help reduce the emotional distress of a bereavement.

How it Works 2

We make all the arrangements for you

You have the reassurance of knowing that you will be supported through the process by your designated WRR Pugh & Son funeral director - a specialist in the field who will ensure that the deceased will receive the same high standard of care and respect that we afford everyone.
We will complete all the necessary documentation, make the arrangements with the crematorium, see to the doctor's fees and crematorium charges.

How it Works 3

We will organise the cremation

Following a death we will make arrangements for the collection and transportation of the deceased into our care. We will provide a suitable coffin for cremation and transport the deceased to the crematorium for cremation.

How it Works 4

Returning the ashes

Following the cremation you can either: Collect your loved one’s ashes from our offices within a few days; request that we scatter the ashes in the crematorium’s garden of remembrance; or have us return the ashes to you in order for you to take them to their final resting place.

What Is a Direct Cremation?

A direct cremation removes the service aspect from a funeral, making it an attractive option for those who have no particular religious beliefs. It is also much less expensive than a traditional funeral because you do not need to pay for a service officiant, organist, hearse or funeral cars.

It can save up to 50% on a traditional funeral while still allowing for family and friends to gather at a wake to remember the deceased in the way they want.

Frequently Asked Questions

A direct cremation involves the funeral director taking the deceased into their care and transporting the body to the crematorium to be cremated. This is carried out with no service and no family or other mourners present.

Direct cremation is often an option for people where budgets are tight but it can also be a personal choice. People often choose direct cremation as they do not want their money spent on a full service or may not have many family members. It can also be the ideal option when a memorial or thanksgiving is being planned at a later date.

No - it is increasingly popular as a less-expensive option to a more traditional funeral. It also provides a flexible option for the deceased to be remembered in the way they want at a later date.

No, they cannot but it is still important for loved ones to be able to say goodbye and here at WRR Pugh & Son in Shrewsbury we are proud to offer this service with an option to wave goodbye to a loved one, safe in the knowledge that they are only going a few miles to a local crematorium such as Shrewsbury, Wrexham or Telford. We say this because it is often important to people and many Direct Cremation options often see the deceased transported to crematoriums miles away from their home with the family unaware of where their loved one is going.

You can rest assured that the deceased will receive the same high standard of care and respect that we afford everyone. Once contacted we will make arrangements for the collection and transportation of the deceased into our premises. We will complete all the necessary documentation, make the arrangements with the crematorium, see to the doctors fees and crematorium charges, provide a suitable coffin for cremation, transportation to the crematorium and funeral bearers.
