Understanding direct cremation services in Shropshire: A comprehensive guide
19 Jul 2024

When it comes to planning a farewell for a loved one, many people are looking for options that are simple, respectful, and cost-effective.

Across the UK, direct cremation services are becoming an increasingly popular choice for those seeking an uncomplicated and dignified way to say goodbye. But what exactly is direct cremation, and why are so many families choosing this option?

What is direct cremation?

Direct cremation is a straightforward process that involves the cremation of the deceased without a funeral service.

This option focuses on simplicity and efficiency, ensuring that the process is as seamless and stress-free as possible, and there are several reasons why families in Shropshire might opt for a direct cremation service:

  • Affordability - Traditional funerals can be expensive, with costs quickly adding up for services, venues, transportation, and ‘other extras’. Direct cremation is a more affordable alternative, as it eliminates many of these additional expenses.
  • Simplicity - For those who prefer a more straightforward approach, direct cremation offers a way to avoid the complexities of organising a traditional funeral. This can be particularly beneficial during what is an already challenging time.
  • Flexibility - Without the need to coordinate a formal service, families have the freedom to plan a memorial or celebration of life at a time and place that suits them. This allows for a more personalised and meaningful tribute.

What to expect from a direct cremation

A direct cremation involves the transportation of the deceased into our care and then to the crematorium on a set date where the body is cremated. There are no mourners present and no service will take place. Confirmation of the date and time of the cremation will be given at the point of making the arrangements.

As with all our services, an opportunity will be given if you wish to spend time at our private chapel of rest, with your loved one prior to the cremation.

The cremation is conducted at our local Emstrey crematorium, Shrewsbury, a licensed crematorium, families can rest assured that the process is handled with the highest level of professionalism. After cremation, the family can collect the ashes directly from the crematorium office or from our premises. This allows for the opportunity to hold a memorial or scattering ceremony at a later date.
