There is a lot to do when you lose a loved one and it can be a little overwhelming - particularly if you haven’t done it before. The thing to always remember is that you do not have to go through it alone and our team at WRR Pugh & Son will be with you every step of the way.
Having made contact following a death, one of our funeral directors will talk through with you how we will care for your loved one and what your wishes and that of the deceased are in arranging a funeral.
But before we get to that stage, there are a number of questions we will need you to answer, so it may be helpful if we go through those here. Most of the answers are straightforward but there may be one or two you will need to enquire about. It is all general information we need when we transfer your loved one into our care.
We need to know:
- The full name of the deceased.
- Their latest address.
- Date of birth.
- Place of death.
- Their GP’s name and surgery information.
- If the deceased had a pacemaker fitted.
- The next of kin.
- Whether cremation or burial is required.
- Details of any funeral plan in place.
Obtaining a Death Certificate
If a doctor is able to issue a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, you must register the death at the local Registry Office in the district in which the death occurred within five days. You will then be issued with a Death Certificate and a Certificate for Burial or Cremation.
In cases where the cause of death is unknown or suspicious, a doctor will be unable to provide a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, the coroner is informed and will look into the circumstances surrounding the death. In this instance a Death Certificate will not be issued until those enquiries are completed.
Once the Death Certificate is issued you can start planning the funeral arrangements with your funeral director in line with your and your loved one’s wishes.
